WALLS & CEILINGS
Hand-Burnished Venetian Plaster
Venetian plaster is the oldest of the fine finishes – lime, marble dust, water, and time. Applied in thin layers and burnished by hand, it carries depth no paint or paper can reach. Light moves across it. The surface shifts through the day. Every wall is a record of the hand that made it.
THE MATERIAL
Lime, layered by hand.
True Venetian plaster is built from slaked lime and finely ground marble. Applied in successive thin coats with a steel trowel, each pass compresses the surface tighter than the last. The final burnish lifts a soft sheen from the stone itself – no wax, no sealer, no imitation.
Dune works with traditional lime-based systems sourced from Italian manufacturers, tinted in studio to the palette of each project. Finishes range from the matte, cloudy depth of Marmorino through to high-polish Stucco Veneziano. Every sample is mixed and trowelled by hand before a wall is touched.
INTERIOR APPLICATIONS
Quiet rooms. Generous walls.
Venetian plaster suits the rooms that hold a house together – entries, living walls, dining rooms, bedheads, libraries. It absorbs and returns light in a way painted plasterboard never will, giving a room a sense of weight and stillness from the moment you step in.
Dune applies Venetian plaster across feature walls, full rooms, ceilings, and joinery returns. Suitable for new builds and renovations, and equally at home in Queensland heritage interiors and contemporary architecture across Brisbane.
OUR COMMITMENT
Made slowly. On purpose.
Every Venetian plaster wall Dune finishes is built over several days and several coats. The work cannot be hurried, and we don’t try. What you see in the finished surface – the soft clouds, the burnish, the quiet movement of tone – is the record of that time. It is the reason the material has lasted six hundred years.
BEGIN A PROJECT
Every surface starts with a conversation.
Whether you’re an architect, designer, or homeowner, we’d be glad to discuss your space. Initial consultations are by appointment, in Brisbane or on-site.
